Other Programs

RMDC is pursuing and/or considering housing programs to serve traditionally under-served populations such as transitional housing for the victims of sexual and domestic abuse, emergency housing geared to crisis intervention and stabilization, as well as transitional and emergency housing for persons coming out of homelessness, substance abuse and/or mental health treatment regimens.

Summer Feeding Program

Rocky Mountain Development Council and Helena Food Share are bringing free nutritious meals to children every weekday between noon and 1:00 p.m. through the summer months.  This year’s Feed N Fun locations in and around Helena are Memorial, Lincoln, Sherron and Centennial Parks, and Warren School.  Feed N Fun project is also running in Townsend, Lincoln and Augusta.   The goal of the program is to ensure the area’s youth have good nutrition throughout the summer, when schools lunch programs are not operating.  Last summer, through the RMDC Summer Feed N’ Fun program, an average of 252 lunches were provided daily to Helena youth during June through August.

The Feed N Fun program is partially funded through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program.  Federal funds are distributed from the USDA to Office of Public Instruction, who then contracts with RMDC to run the program.  USDA funding is supplemented by RMDC through Community Service Block Grant money.  Local financial support from Rocky Mountain Credit Union, Tempest Technologies, the Optimist Club, Helena Exchange Club and Helena Food Share donors helps keep the program on an even financial keel.

Sites for the summer food program must follow USDA guidelines and be approved. For information about the Kids Feed N’ Fun program, contact Shawna Amberg of RMDC at 457-7361 or Ann Waickman of Helena Food Share at 443-3663

Spirit of Service

The Spirit of Service is an annual "Spring Cleaning" event promoted by local businesses and organizations. Volunteers spend an entire day helping homeowners who need help with yard work or maintenance of their homes. The home must be owner-occupied and the homeowners must be unable to do the work themselves. Homes must be located in Helena or East Helena. The service is free of charge to the homeowners.

The organizations involved provide the tools, labor and materials required to do the work.
