Jan Shaw Group Home

On Thursday, September 4th RMDC participated in a remarkable groundbreaking ceremony. The new Jan Shaw Group Home (part of Montana Youth Homes) is being built by high school carpentry students from Capital and Helena High. At the groundbreaking, Commissioner Sandra Oitzinger spoke on behalf of Mayor Jim Smith, congratulating RMDC, School District #1 and the staff of Montana Youth Homes.

Lt. Governor John Bollinger praised the work of the many partners involved, noting especially the community's efforts to work together in order to create a safe haven for our youth. The Jan Shaw construction project is funded through a community development block grant awarded to the City of Helena by the Department of Commerce. The ciy donated the land for the new Jan Shaw Group Home and will remain closely involved with the project.

This particular construction project really exemplifies all that RMDC is about: engaging in partnerships to respond in a very practical way to a human services need within the community. Special thanks to Jeff Miller and Larry Middagh for their work on the construction project, and to Emily McVey, Program Manager of Montana Youth Homes for keeping a steady hand on the wheel during a time of intense transition at Montana Youth Homes
