Margaret Stuart Youth Home for Boys and Girls

 

 

The Margaret Stuart Youth Home for Boys and Girls is part of Rocky Mountain Youth Services, a program that has been supporting and sheltering Montana youth since 1975.

The Margaret Stuart, an 8-bed facility, serves boys and girls, ages 12-17, providing holdover care, shelter care (1-45 days) and long and short term group home care (up to 2 years).

 

Montana Youth Home facilities:

 

  • provide non-therapeutic programs;
  • require educational programs for all residents;
  • assist with employment searches;
  • work with community organizations to take advantage of community resources;
  • are supervised 24/7;
  • provide daily groups and circles;
  • provide on-site case management;
  • offer chemical dependency and codependency classes;
  • are supported by volunteer and mentor programs.

 

Rocky Mountain Youth Resources (RMYR) believes that all youth need the skills to experience and form healthy relationships and the skills to live independently.  Therefore, RMYR Margaret Stuart core curriculum is tailored around the following four goals:

 

  • Youth will work toward developing the respect that leads to keeping self, others, and property safe.
  • Youth will increase understanding of the characteristics of and begin to enter into healthy relationships.
  • Youth will develop independent living skills.
  • Youth will gain awareness of self and community. 

 

The ideal candidate has the following characteristics:

 

  • Age 12-17 years
  • Prosocial –ability to follow basic rules and develop effective relationships with staff
  • History of negative behaviors that do not include an extensive history or current threat of assault or self-injury. 
  • Difficulty in school
  • Lack of boundaries OR truancy/runaway
  • Functional IQ between 85 (lower bound) and 135 (upper bound)
  • Single or Co-Occurring diagnoses
  • History of delinquent or maladaptive behavior paired with motivation to succeed
  • Sex Offenders with a treatment background                                                       
  • Sexually reactive

 

The following youth are generally not appropriate for placement in our facility:

 

  • History of arson
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Antisocial Personality Disorder
  • Cluster A / B personality characteristics or Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Functioning IQ less than 85

 

Rocky Mountain Youth Resources Margaret Stuart Youth Home is non-therapeutic therefore cannot accept Medicaid funding.  Our daily rate for state referrals is $109.82 per day (as of Dec. 2011).

 

 

All Rocky Mountain Youth Resources residents take part in the 12-week Youth on Track to Adulthood (YOTA) program.
