Compeer
Compeer Helena links adult volunteers with same-gender individuals who are recovering from a mental illness.
Compeer volunteers serve as supportive friends, role models and advocates, donating 4-8 hours a month to their friend. Volunteers and friends spend time together in person and through phone calls and emails. Paired friends may enjoy a cup of coffee, a summer band concert, a dog show, sporting events, movies or similar affordable social outings.
Compeer Helena is part of an internationally recognized program. It brings the power of friendship to the complex field of mental illness through its professionally managed volunteer matches. Since each Compeer friend already has mental health professional, volunteers do not need to serve as social workers, caretakers or therapists.
Compeer Helena volunteers
- receive program training;
- are matched carefully;
- help reduce community stigma around mental illness;
- enjoy the friendship of another person and can make a direct difference in the life of someone who may be lonely and isolated.
