Senior Volunteer Programs All of RMDC's senior programs are geared to helping seniors maintain independence. Senior Companion Program The Senior Companion Program provides volunteer opportunities for senior - 60 years and over - on limited incomes to provide services for homebound elderly or adults with special needs who with a little help are able to maintain their independence and continue living at home. For 15 to 40 hours of work per week the senior companion receives a tax free stipend and other benefits. RMDC's Senior Companion Program serves 15 counties and engages 140 volunteers annually in providing invaluable service and companionship to other seniors and adults with special needs over the age of 21. (More Information) Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program provides a variety of volunteer opportunities for people 55 or better so they can remain active and involved in their communities. Volunteers serve from a few hours to 20 or more per week doing such things as clerical work, tutoring, preparing bulk mailings and sewing quilts. Volunteers also assist at schools, libraries, hospitals, nursing homes and other nonprofit agencies where help is needed. Each year, RMDC's Retired and Senior Volunteers donate thousands of hours of service to their local communities in Broadwater, Jefferson and Lewis & Clark counties. Through the RSVP program these communities are able to reap the benefit of the knowledge, expertise and experience senior volunteers have to offer. (More Information) Foster Grandparent Program RMDC's Foster Grandparent Program gives approximately 100 Foster Grandparents an opportunity each year to make a difference in the lives of youth in our community. Foster Grandparents work with children in a variety of settings such as elementary schools, preschools, Head Start classrooms, faith-bases sites or other non-profit organizations that serve children. Foster Grandparent volunteers strengthen the children of our communities by sharing the expertise and knowledge they have gained over the years. Men and women, 60 years of age or older, on a limited income are eligible to participate in the Foster Grandparent Program. A few of the benefits provided are: a nontaxable stipend, mileage reimbursement, vacation, sick leave and most importantly, an opportunity to remain a vital part of the community. RMDC's Foster Grandparent Program serves Lewis & Clark, Gallatin, Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Jefferson, Broadwater, Beaverhead, Powell, and Park Counties. I love being a senior companion because I feel needed. The seniors I visit need the kind of help I can give, not only driving them to appointments, but sharing my life with them, as they share with me...They need me and I certainly need them. ~Senior Companion
